About Me

Salutations! C'mon in...

I'm MiMi!

I'm a brain aneurysm, domestic & sexual abuse survivor who has been writing since I had lined oak-tag paper and fat crayons in my fist.

In the third grade, in order to 'quell my enthusiasm, my teacher asked me to write a poem for a friend's wedding. The friend liked it so much she put it in the wedding program.

That kind of positive reinforcement encouraged me to keep writing and performing poetry eventually allowing me to obtain an MFA in Creative Writing with a Special Concentration in Poetry from National University in 2009.

In 2012, I suffered a brain aneurysm rupture which has left me with no peripheral vision, and a plethora of cognitive issues like memory loss and severe neuro-fatigue.

To assist in my healing my neurologist suggested and encouraged  me to write fiction. Hence "Hood Ornaments", "Neighborhood Watches" & "Street Metals" were born first as a rather large, lol, book then later broken down into blog episodes which will be posted here, in The New Jawn.
